Ibin’s entrance to volleyball could have been by chance yet the 26-year-old has been a focal piece in Bengaluru Torpedoes’ dispute for an Eliminator spot in PVL season three.
Ibin Jose has made the most of it when Bengaluru Torpedoes has required him the most, frequently serving as the super sub in the Prime Volleyball League season three.
The Bengaluru-based group defeated Mumbai Meteors 3-0 on Saturday to keep its mission alive. Torpedoes, set third with four points in the Super 5s points table, presently need Calicut Heroes to win its final match to ensure qualification to the eliminator.
It is a sensation that this has happened before for Ibin and his group. In the previous version, Torpedoes figured out how to enter the semifinals courtesy of Kochi Blue Spikers’ victory in the final gathering stage match. Prior in the opposition, Torpedoes’ rebound stunned the third-put Heroes 3-2. Ibin was one of the top performers and scored 11 points in that game.
Terming it as one of the most thrilling matches he has at any point experienced, Ibin said, “We took the first two sets, lost the following two sets, and finally got the final one. As they returned strong, and we withstood it, it was thrilling, more exciting for us.”
Defeating the PVL season one boss, Kolkata Thunderbolts, 3-1 in the semifinal last year, the Torpedoes clarified that they were a power to deal with. Notwithstanding, the side’s bold exertion in the final went in vain as it went down against Ahmedabad Defenders 2-3. Ibin was granted the “Emerging Player of the Season” for the 78 points he scored in that season.
Asked on the off chance that the group intended to reverse the plot this time, Ibin said, “What difference would it make? We are focusing on being the champions and using the open door the league presents us.”
The Torpedoes figured out how to secure their center group for this version with three or four exceptions, and learning from last year’s final is the way to winning in this release. “It (the result) depends on the day and execution of the player. Nothing else matters. We must do the best that we can with and keep away from natural errors,” said the 26-year-old Ibin.
The Wayanad chap’s volleyball process started 10 years prior after his sister’s mentor discovered his ability. “My sister was playing in the school volleyball crew, and I was hanging out with them. The mentor spotted me and asked me to join the boys group. Later, he asked me to join the summer coaching camp and the foundation of a previous SAI volleyball trainer to work on my skills. Then I went to Kerala State Sports Committee Volleyball Foundation.”
Ibin’s PVL section was because of his work and Torpedoes assistant mentor Lijo E. John’s direction. Having trained under Lijo at the university level, Ibin took his risk in the league’s first version yet didn’t get it done. His fate turned when the Calicut group he represented won the all-India inter-university title following 32 years. This drove him being picked by the Torpedoes in the second version.
A X-factor for Ibin and his group is the presence of an unfamiliar lead trainer, David Lee, an Olympic gold medallist, who played PVL’s first season prior to venturing into coaching. “Assuming that you discuss David Lee, he’s an outstanding player with amazing experience. We can watch and gain proficiency with the international training standards, strategies, significance of skill, how to act on and off the court and how to be a group.”
Ibin, who has proactively experienced being the second-best group, is enthused about turning the tide and assist his group with clinching its lady league title.
